Untertainment Weakly (11-16-12)

By Jake

Jessica Lange will return to “American Horror Story,” which has been renewed for a third season.

The Octomom was accused of being an octopus.

Alexander Skarsgard is playing Tarzan in some bullshit movie.

Elizabeth Banks had a second baby via surrogate.  This is just an excuse to post a picture of her.

The puppeteer of Elmo was accused of having sex with a child, but then unaccused of it.

Louis C.K.’s next stand-up special will air on HBO.

There will not be a “Friends” movie, thankfully.  Who would want to see that?

Shirley Jones has joined the cast of “Cougar Town.”

A sequel to “Hotel Transylvania” is coming in 2015.

“Girls” has been renewed for a third season before the second season even debuts.

Blind Item
A certain TV star was seen at a restaurant in LA reading an old issue of "Newsweek" and became so enraged at President Obama that he yelled at his black waiter.  Shame on you!

Matthew Perry Watch
Matty will return in 2013 to “The Good Wife.” Hardest working man in show business!

Movies I Watched This Week
The Amazing Spider-Man 6.5/10 Not as awful as I was expecting, but the first hour of the movie was pretty much the same as the first “Spider-Man” movie with more skateboarding.
Moonrise Kingdom 9.5/10 A really great movie with a crazy cast.  The two teens that star in the movie are fantastic.

The fourth season of “Louie” will not air until 2014.

“Community” and “Whitney” have been put on hold, in theory to replace some of NBC’s shows that will be canceled.

On “Monday Night Raw,” professional wrestling superstar CM Punk punched a fan in the audience.  The fan was wearing sunglasses inside and they were not Oakleys, so it was justified.

Sexy librarian Rachel Harris and Angela Kinsey of “The Office” landed a pilot over at Fox called “Dirty Blondes.”

NBC has slashed Jay Leno’s pay in half.  Fuck Leno.  He can commit suicide by turning on his 500 cars and suffocating.

The “Munsters” reboot is going to have a special airing in two weeks as part of Halloween.

The premier of "Community" and "Whitney" have been delayed, which is possibly good news since neither show is likely to die on Friday now.

Stevie Nicks apologized for saying she would kill Nicki Minaj.

Anne Hathaway is attached to star in a new romantic comedy co-written by Mindy Kaling.

Rapper Nelly was detained for possession of heroin, a loaded gun and 10 pounds of weed.  It may have taken him 10 years, but KRS-1 finally won.

"Go On" has been given a full season order!  Congrats to Matt.

Movies I Watched in the Last Month
Looper 9/10 I really liked this movie.  It’s about time travel and has Bruce Willis killing a bunch of guys with guns.  What could be better?
X: The Unheard Music 9/10 The great band X has a great sort-of documentary and this is it.  Very enjoyable.
Pitch Perfect 7/10 Incredibly stupid, but fun.
Tim & Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie 7/10 An incredibly fucked up movie that does not even for a second try to be likable or anything but completely weird and unappealing.

Project X 7/10 Teens have a crazy party: The Movie.

One Week in Entertainment with Glenn

By Glenn

It's been about two years since I last stood behind the high powered rifle of the weekly entertainment column.  Like any mentally unstable person who is free to buy guns in the United States, I will now proceed to take aim at many popular figures and institutions of the entertainment industry.  Please sit back, enjoy and be sure not to lobby Congress for sensible gun laws.

ROSIE ON HER HEART ATTACK: I ALMOST DIED - AND THAT'S A FACT
Rosie O'Donnell, former host of a hit talk show where she pretend to be heterosexually attracted to pretend heterosexual Tom Cruise, had a heart attack and claims her almost dying is a "fact."  Rosie, I have five boys - I'm used to people trying to tell me something's true when it isn't.  You had a heart attack but you were never close to dying because while the good die young, evil is immortal.  I've been practicing that zinger for months.

DARRYL HANNAH ARRESTED PROTESTING KEYSTONE XL PIPELINE IN TEXAS

I actually got arrested the same day as Darryl Hannah last year, protesting the Keystone XL Pipeline in front of the rebuilt White House.  She was arrested again this week, and kudos to her for putting her dwindling celebrity status to good use instead of the usual self-debasement on terrible contest show.  She should be celebrated for this and for her starring role in the remake of Splash due out in 2013.  I can't find a picture of her the day but I found this one online - that is definitely the same motherfucker who put a zip tie on my beautiful thin wrists.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW? SBTB'S LARK VOORHIES
People magazine did a photo shoot recently featuring five of the seven original SBTB cast members (Dustin Diamond choose not to participate and Dennis Haskins had a list of several marriage proposal calls to make that afternoon).  They did a "where are they now?" piece and Lark Voorhies's creator/mother said that Lark has bipolar disorder.  Lark denied it but later admitted it was true.  Then denied it again later.

Books

NEW BOOK: 'IN SUNLIGHT AND IN SHADOW' BY MARK HELPRIN
Mark Halperin, famous political hack and "journalist" currently employed by Time Magazine, has a new book.  Hopefully it is as insider and superficial as his last novel "Gamechange."

#2 ON THE BEST SELLER LIST: WAGING PEACE BY NEIL YOUNG
Everyone's favorite Manitoban has written a book about having a son with developmental disabilities and what it was like to predict Barack Obama's ascendancy in 2005.  Young said he wrote the book because he needs more money, which also explains why he wanted regular, hard working, white Americans to pay $18.99 for a CD full of old timey songs earlier this year.

Movies

TAKEN 2 - As someone said, the novelty of seeing Liam Neeson in action movies has worn off.  In this sequel, more things are taken from him.

PITCH PERFECT - Cute as a button Anna Kendrick stars in what looks to be an atrocious movie about singing with not a single full frontal shot of nudity.  For what it's worth (not much), she is actually pretty funny on Twitter compared to what I thought she'd be like.  You can follow her here.

THE HOUSE I LIVE IN - from awesome director Eugene Jarecki, who also did the fantastic but maybe a bit long Why We Fight, comes a new film about the drug war.  Jarecki tackles the issue by telling the stories of everyone from prison guards to recreational users.  By the end if  you will agree that we need to escalate the drug war even if it comes at the cost of destroying our own society.

Matthew Perry Watch

While I like Matthew Perry, I do not think he is the "greatest actor and greatest human being of all time" to quote OYIT's Jake.  I watched the pilot of his new goon show and didn't like it, though subsequent episodes have been better.  It is better than the awful Mr. Sunshine that fortunately died an early death like Monica and Chandler's stillborn child on Friends.

This week MP revealed he was an Oakland Athletics fans on Twitter:

Thank you for reading and I may or may not be back next week.

Hit and Run - Have you seen the trailer for this piece of shit?  Dax Sheppard and a bunch of other assholes star in this movie about ex-cons or cars or running or fighting.  Who knows.  It looks terrible and if you go to see it and tell me you did I will punch you in the ass.

Bicycle: The Movie - Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as Franklin Bicycle, a professional bicycle messenger with a terrible secret--he also rides a motorcycle.  A group of bicycle activists try to catch Franklin, the world’s most famous bike messenger, riding his motorcycle.  The tension mounts as he hits evasive wheelies.

Movies I Watched This Week
All American Orgy 4/10 An indie-style “comedy” about three couples having an orgy.  Features a bizarre rape scene which has a button.
Singin’ in the Rain 9/10 I got to see this in the theater and pay $11.50 for a movie I could have bought for the same price.

Abby Elliot will not be returning to “Saturday Night Live.”

WWE and Warner Bros are teaming up to make a “Scooby Doo” film based around a ghostly bear threatening to ruin WrestleMania.  Seriously, this is a thing that is really being made.

John Slattery has joined the cast of “Arrested Development.”

Mayim Bialik suffered serious injuries after a car accident.  She shouldn’t have let Six drive her car drunk.

Lucy Lawless is guesting on the upcoming season of “Parks & Recreation.”

There’s a “Walking Dead” movie rumor going around.

Nicolas Cage is rumored to have already signed on for another sequel to “The Expendables.”

Miley Cyrus will guest on an upcoming episode of “2.5 Men.”

Matthew Perry Watch

NBC will rerun “Go On” on Tuesday after “America’s Got Talent.”  If you missed the original airing due to a death in the family, this is your chance to catch up.

Movies Out This Weekend
Expendables 2 - A bunch of elderly men fight for our freedom and blow stuff up.  The original “Expendables” movie was pretty fun, and this one should be, too.  It has JCVD and Chuck Norris in it.  Still, don’t you have something better to spend your money on?  Crack, maybe?

Paranorman - Way back when my wife and I saw “The Adventures of Tintin” in 3D, we saw a trailer for this film.  It looked really cool in 3D.  We will probably go see this.  Cartoons look really great in 3D and this has a pretty good Rotten Tomatoes score (85%).

Movies I Watched This Week
The Campaign 5/10 An okay movie that mostly falls flat.
The Timer 8/10 A surprisingly good sci-fi romantic dramedy.
Morning Glory 6/10 Decent showbiz comedy.
Showgirls 7/10 Completely ridiculous and accidentally hilarious film.

Burn your cd"s at Time Queef by Tubetopp
This is a song from the band I'm in (currently called Time Queef) with Ali, Bub and Kaleena.  I sing on this song about wanting to burn your CDs.  I made the lyrics up on the fly, so that's why they are a bit wonky.

Matthew Perry Watch

The preview of “Go On” that aired this week drew in 16 million people.  Way to go, Matty.

Movies Out This Weekend
The Campaign - Will Farrell and Zack Galifianakis star as opposing candidates running for some office.  The trailer looked funny and it has a 65% on Rotten Tomatoes.  I’m sure this will be a big hit.

The Bourne Legacy - More like the boring legacy, am I right?  These movies are fucking boring.

Movies I Watched This Week
Basic Instinct 7/10 A hilariously terrible movie, that is also good.  The dialogue is ridiculous, but the cinematography is beautiful.  Delightfully vapid.
Helldriver 6.5/10 A japanese zombie movie where blood sprays like a geyser every 10 seconds.
This Means War 2/10 Awful.
I’m Gonna Get You Sucka 8/10 A great send up of blaxploitation movies.

The cast of “Modern Family” has agreed to a new contract.

Dan Harmon has a deal with CBS to write a sitcom pilot.

The sequel to the surprisingly good “X-Men: The First Class” will be confusedly titled “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”

Bill Murray is still not going to be in a third “Ghostbusters” film.

Larry David’s movie starring Jon Hamm and Michael Keaton is headed to HBO.

Vince Vaughn is producing a reboot/update of “The Brady Bunch” for CBS.  Didn’t they do this already?  Wasn’t it called “Step-by-Step”?

“The Hobbit” is now a trilogy.  Yawn.

There is going to be a “Bad Santa” sequel.  No one is excited.

Tia Mowry has landed a pilot on “Nickelodeon.”

The producer of “Rush Hour” is clamoring for another sequel.

“Louie” is renewed for a fourth season.

Matthew Perry Watch

“Go On” is getting a sneak preview this Wednesday (August 8th) as a loose tie-in with the Olympics.

Movies Out This Weekend
Total Recall - Does anybody in the world want to see this movie?  The original is, let’s face it, pretty bad.  This one looks like a blander version.  PG-13 means no three breasted aliens and no blood.  WWE is TV-PG and they can do blood.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days - Is this movie about a kid or dogs?  Maybe both.  Maybe neither.  If you see this movie you will die.

Movies I Watched This Week
The Watch 7/10 This movie received terrible reviews, but I really enjoyed it.  It was funny and Vince Vaughn and Richard Aoyade were both really good in it.
Miss Congeniality 2 4/10  Bad.  For the most part, it doesn’t even seem like the same Sandy B character until the third act.  I could write an essay about this movie.
Cabin Boy 6.5/10 Surprisingly good, unsurprisingly weird.
Goon 7/10 A good hockey movie about a “goon,” a dude who beats the shit out of people.
Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical 6/10 An okay movie that goes on a little long.  The songs are not particularly good for the most part, but the dancing is.
Drive Me Crazy 4/10 Pretty shitty.  Something about the movie just didn’t click.

Dan Harmon is doing a multi-camera sitcom pilot for Fox.

Conan O’Brien’s production company is developing a talk show pilot for comedian Pete Holmes, which would follow Conan on TBS in theory.

NBC has ordered a 10 episode series of “Dracula.”

The Muppets have pulled out of something dealing with Chik-fil-a, which is an awful, conservative company that profits on the systematic murder of chickens.

The Minions from “Despicable Me” are getting their own spin-off movie.

Mindy Kaling will return to “The Office.”

Matthew Perry Watch

A sneak peek of the "Go On" pilot will air August 8, before it makes its timeslot premiere on Tues., Sept. 11, 9 p.m. ET on NBC.

Movies Out This Weekend
The Watch - Seth Rogen and his writing partner Evan Goldberg team up with the scribe of “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” to bring us this tale of neighborhood watchman and aliens.  The trailer looked pretty funny, and Moss from “The IT Crowd” is in this.  My wife and I are going to see it today, so you’ll know if I liked it next week.

Step Up Revolution 3D - The revolution will not be televised--it will be in theaters in glorious digital 3D!  Watch people dance and shit in this movie, if you want.

Movies I Watched This Week
The Dark Knight Rises 10/10 Great movie.  Anne Hathaway is beautiful and Christian Bale has a beard.
Miss Congeniality 6/10 Really dumb, but fun.  It’s like an 80s movie.  Like “Mannequin” or “Weekend at Bernie’s.”
The Girlfriend Experience 4/10 Kind of boring.
My Science Project 7/10 A funny and ludicrous 80s comedy.  Best line: “I’m so scared that I’m thinking about God.”
