One Week Entertainment: Hip Hop Supplemental Edition [2-14-09]

By Jake

Now, I know what you're thinking: OYIT only reports on bands like MGMT and the Presidents of the United States. Not true. At least not anymore. Here is a special edition of One Week Entertainment to wrap up some hip hop news for the kids who know how tricky it is to rock a rhyme, and therefore appreciate the art and sub-culture.

Lil' Wayne won 4 Grammy Awards including Best Rap Album. Lil' Wayne's The Carter III was a Mecha Godzilla-esque monster when it was released. Prediction: Weezy F. Baby-- while probably being gay in a homophobic sub-culture-- maintains prominence and receives accolades (unless he comes out) through 2009 with several albums slated for release (including an April 7th release of his rock album, Rebirth) and 1,000 unofficial mixtapes.

50 Cent vs. Rick Ross
50 Cent is gearing up for a new album which can only mean one thing, he's gunning for other rappers. This time he has his sights set on Rick Ross, who we recently learned spent time as a corrections officer. 50 Cent effectively threw a wrench in JaRule's career, can he do the same for Ross?

50 Cent - Officer Ricky (Go Head, Try Me)

Rick Ross - Kiss My Pinky Ring Curly

50 Cent ft. Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo - I'll Be the Shooter

Rick Ross - Push 'Em Over the Edge

50 Cent - Tia Told Me

Lloyd Banks - Officer Down

Before we move off of the Ross/50 Cent feud, in 50's Ross diss "Officer Ricky" he has a line directed toward Foxy Brown. Foxy responds by demanding 50 retract his statement in 24 hours or "he'll be handled Brooklyn style." 50 retorts with this video:

Lil' Wayne vs. 50 Cent
Wayne aimed his sights at 50 on last November's Louisianimal. 50 has finally responded, adding Weezy to the growing list of rappers in which 50 has beef.

Lil' Wayne - Louisianimal

50 Cent - Play This on the Radio

Cam'ron dropped a new recession themed song out of nowhere. The more important news is the video of the song has a teaser for a new Cam album dropping on April 21st. Hopefully this is true and not a lie like Dr. Dre's Detox is coming out this year.

Saigon vs. Joe Budden
While neither of these rappers are very high profile, they still have had a notable feud this year.

Joe Budden - Letter to Saigon

Saigon ft. Prodigy - Under Achiever

Saigon - No Problemz

Joe Budden - Pain in His Life

Saigon - Pushin' Buddens

Snoop Dogg is prepping a new album for MTV called Malice in Wonderland. He is also set to host a new talk show for MTV called Dogg After Dark.

Random Songs
Hell Rell - I'm Gangsta

  3. That Officer Ricky song is so fucking bad, "I lost my best friend, he died of cancer. Call me a cheetah I strike like a panther."

50 Cent I wish YOU died of AIDS instead of Eazy E whose dis albums directed toward Dr. Dre were so hurtful they recently killed Dr. Dre's 18 year old son by way of drug overdose trying to escape the shame put on his family by Eazy's perfect dis-es.

  4. HA! All of those songs are pretty bad. 50 Cent's songs are good in comparison to Rick Ross', in my opinion. That Kiss the Pinky Ring song is so bad and very overly homophobic. It makes me uncomfortable and I once wrote a song called "Fag Killer 187".

  5. The Saigon and Joe Budden songs are way better! Those guys are the kind of "underground" rap that I actually enjoy. I can't stand that El-P brand of future rap.

  6. Yea, I really liked the Saigon-Joe Budden beef. They talk about things I can relate to like internet message boards and being a dead beat dad.

  7. I have to say that as bad as 50 and Rick Ross are, there is nothing worse than a solo Lloyd Banks song to me.

Also, I love that Cam'ron song.

  8. I also like when that guy in the Cam'ron video told him that they weren't hiring murderers and asked where his mask and gloves were. Plus Cam'ron shows that he understands the plight of the working woman and man. Cam'ron for Commerce Secretary!!
