Movies 1-14-11 (Green Hornet and The Dilemma)

By Jake

It is Friday once again, which happens to be the day most movie "open" in the cinemas. This week we have the Ron Howard directed "The Dilemma" and the Michel Gondry directed "The Green Hornet." These are your only choices for entertainment this weekend, folks, so you better take a long look at these films.

The Green Hornet
Seth Rogen stars as The Green Hornet. Yes, somebody gave a greenlight to Seth Rogen portraying a super hero. I like Rogen a lot. He is a pretty likable guy and his films are often of quality and funny. I even was considering seeing this in 3D. So the question is: is seeing The Green Hornet worth $9 a ticket? I have read a few reviews for this film and checked the IMDB rating. The critics do not like this (it has a 40% on Rotten Tomatoes from the critics), but the people like it (a 6.9 on IMDB, a 71% on Rotten Tomatoes from the people). So, I would say that it's up to you. You're not going to listen to me anyway. I probably am not going to see it.

The Dilemma
Vince Vaughn and Kevin James star in this PG-13 comedy that dares to answer the question: what do you do when your friend's significant other is cheating on them. Vince Vaughn is Glenn's favorite actor. Kevin James is his second favorite. So I think he will be seeing the movie. I will not, although Ron Howard returning to comedy is pretty interesting. Should you see this? Eh, probably not. Rotten Tomatoes has it at 24%. Do you really want to give you money to Kevin James? If you do, please, close your browser, turn your computer off and read a Boxcar Children novel by Gertrude Chandler Warner.

What I Watched This Week
Mr. Warmth: The Don Rickles Project - A decent tribute video to Don Rickles, the racist comedian. 7.5
Pee-wee's Big Adventure - Public masturbator Paul Reuben stars as Pee-wee Herman, a man-child with a severe form of mental retardation. 9/10
Futuresport - The sport of the future is a hybrid of skateboarding and basketball/hockey. Dean Cain stars as the most popular Futuresport player. 7.5/10
Crank 2: High Voltage - When you get an artificial heart you must shock yourself to keep it charged. 6.5/10
Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan - Jason kills people in New York. 5/10
The Gauntlet - A Clint Eastwood joint. Lots of fire squad-style bullet saturations. 7/10
