Spy Swap!

By James

Recently, the United States arrested 10 people pretending to be spies so they could escape Russia and own a home of their own, and also dig up bags of free money from a field in upstate New York. And also write in invisible marker, which I always unsuccessfully tried to find a secret use for when I was a kid. (At least we landed on the moon before them.)

Everyone is talking about the impending spy swap between the cold war loser Russia and the cold war winner the United States of America. Even the Russians are taking time out of being upset about being conquered by the Mongols to read about this, so it is every American’s duty to read more about it than them, before there is a “knowledge of spy story” gap.

In this Spy vs. Spy comic-esque drama, the U.S. dropped a bomb containing 10 recently arrested spies on Russia’s head, killing it, until the next issue. The 10 Russian spies will be exchanged for 9 of our spies, which is the going exchange rate for a spy swap. One of our spies is named Igor, or some other equally grotesque name, according to his mother, who is named as a source for some of this information by a journalist.

Do you know that the Russians initially denied this and then agreed to this spy swap? This isn’t some bullshit you can find on Craigslist. This is a spy swap, jerks. Just to clear things up, Barack and Leon did not post a Craigslist ad asking if anyone wants to swap 9 U.S. spies for 10 “like-new” Russian spies. They just said to Russia, “we have some of your fucking spies, dudes, and we want to do a spy swap.” However, I once read a “missed connections” I thought may’ve been posted by Leon Panetta: “i saw u sell plans for a nuclear bomb to iran and n korea… u looked sexy and had the sexiest russ accent like out of a james bond movie. did u notice me? respond with ‘sexy russ spy’ in the headline, otherwise it will delete it like spam.” I digress…

During the cold war, spying was all the rage. The Russia and the U.S. each tried to keep at least a literal stable full of spies in the other’s nation to do all kinds of crazy espionage, such as steal state secrets, like, “Kruschev is such a hotty.” It used to be pretty crazy, some people called the Rosenbergs were executed for alleged spying. However, this one is really not so bad. According to this guy quoted in a LA Times article, “’However this time it will have a somewhat farcical connotation," Kortunov said. "The alleged spies arrested in the United States didn't really achieve anything in terms of espionage, while Sutyagin, many human rights activists believe, was not a spy either, and his conviction was purely political.’" Whenever anyone calls anything farcical, I am always on-board. And yes, I did just quote an article quoting someone else—we live in a post-modern world where journalism like this is standard.

It seems to me, though, that both the U.S. and the Russia are trying to hush up all the excitement, so it won’t strain recently improved U.S.-Russian relations (Obama “liked” a picture of Medvedev giving a thumbs-up on Facebook), when it should drag on as long as possible. Don’t we live in America?

So, perhaps nothing really happened, but it’s still pretty cool. Someone should probably write a memoir or Tom Clancy novel about this after all the bad press blows over.

OYIT Monday morning addition: Man hangs himself in Iowa, to protest passage of healthcare?

By James

Great job, Iowa! You made it! The BBC News! With the headline, "US teenagers in Iowa 'find body in egg hunt'." hahaaaaaahhhh naaahhhhh you didn't! Really?

Some guy just fuckin' hangs himself in a park, and some kids find his body during an egg hunt. Who knows, man. They (the police?) aren't releasing any information as to why he is hanging from a tree, BUT, I will speculate wildly:

1) Guy wanted to see if the resurrection of Christ is scientifically possible. Guy hanged himself from a tree on Good Friday (a tree much like the one Christ's cross was made from), and intended to wake up on Easter, like Jesus did. Who knows, maybe he thought he was the messiah.

2) Guy was actually their wacky uncle, you know, the one who pulls pranks, and makes the funny silly jokes. So, fake hanging transubstantiated into real hanging? By God?

3) Guy was actually a tea party activist, protesting the passage of health care reform. Or the socialist Census. You can't count a dead man--his citizenship and place of residency have changed to 777 Miracle St., Heaven, somewhere in outerspace.

4) Guy was put there by Lucifer to ruin Easter.

5) Guy was unhappy with his life, didn't think it was worth living... living in a communist America, that is. Took New Hampshire's state motto, "Live Free or Die" to its ultimate conclusion.

6) Aspiring writer, perhaps? From the University of Iowa's "writers" workshop, I hope? Please, Jesus?

Do republicans realize their party color is red? Commie red? Blood red? The red of a woman's menstrual flow, after she takes a goblet full of RU 486 pills? I think not. One would think so, though, because they react so strongly and emotionally (infantile-ly?) to anything resembling something they're afraid of (towels?).

Weather:

Perhaps, clear and blue? Decidedly not communist? NO. Scattered thundershowers, and, so, vaguely authoritarian--MUCH LIKE COMMUNISM.

Predictions:

People will discover that, instead of Jesus, Josef Stalin rose from the grave, to cover the world in a second darkness. Witnessing true communism, in all of its terrifying completeness, the world will turn to Barack Obama to save them, but it will turn out that he really is the Anti-Christ, and then all of us, including Stalin, will be totally boned by this more terrifying figure. Rapture will begin, and all of these fundamentalist Christians, who, just yesterday, we thought were bonkers, will float up to Heaven and be rewarded for their faith. THE END.

Have a good morning.

Toward a Better Understanding of Monday

By James

Good Monday, readers, readers I make up in my mind.

In the news this Monday: Eleven died when a suicide bomber blew up Lahore today. Imagine waking up to that as I just did. I haven't heard about a suicide bombing since the Iraq war ended in 2003. Two Chinamen were arrested, in China, and sentenced to 10 years in prison for stoning a snow leopard to death, after it had sex with someone it wasn't married to. Turkey, the country, is perhaps the 400th nation to have an Earth quake in the past four or five weeks - looks like 2012 is cumming a little early. Also, most people in the world believe that access to the internet is a fundamental human right, but mostly for pornographic reasons. And, finally, The Mummy gets its day in court. There is no more news.

+1/+1 creature with weather (for all of you Magic nerds): Warmer than it was 4 weeks ago, which means spring is approaching, and I will have sex in public. I will tell you all when and where next week.

Predictions: thousands of college students will get drunk this spring break, the Earth's magnetic poles will flip, somewhere a child will get syphilis just from reading about it, and Glenn will move to Iowa City to become a cab driver.

Have a good Monday, you fucking jerks.

Good Morning Awful Monday

By James

Today is the first Monday of the rest of my life. I couldn’t think of a better first line. I looked at a photo of Glenn wearing nothing but argyle sox (GO SOX! Black Sox, Red Sox, blue sox, I don‘t care) for inspiration, but, predictably, I vomited onto my sox. No, I’m not going to use the backspace key. Ever. For any post. Well, we all hate Mondays. My fondest Monday memory is from two years ago, when I went to the bank to report my credit card and check card stolen, and the banker, who moonlights as the dumbest cooze in history, starts her conversation with the fraud and theft department, or whatever they are called, with “Hello, it’s Monday, I’ve got a James Ross here who…” That is how I feel every Monday--I feel like I keep getting my credit and check cards stolen.

So, I forgot until the last minute that I’m supposed to write a “Good Morning” post for OYIT or whatever they’re called, and I don’t know what any of you ass holes expect.

Okay. On with the show. My typical Monday morning during a winter semester in Iowa City, IA, begins with wandering out into a desolate wasteland and the human smog we call the student body at the University of Iowa (not one you would want to have sex with), and then dying right in the middle of it. At least, that is how it feels inside. I trudge on, shouldering a backpack that feels like it has eight hundred awkwardly placed medicine balls in it, scurrying from building to building, like a diseased rodent, smoking several packs of cigarettes between classes, generally trying not to fail out of the University of Life. Perhaps this is an exaggeration, but what do you expect, you ass holes? WHO EVEN READS THIS WEBSITE? Not me. But I have been damned for eternity to write the Monday “Good Morning” post, a Sisyphusian labor, as punishment for being one of the few literate human beings left on the planet. What a bunch of BULL SHIT.

Usually, a person would use the following paragraph to apologize for the last paragraph, and play it all off as a joke, a joke to his or her friends. Well. Fuck you, it’s not a joke. I hate writing for OYIT. I don’t even get paid, unless you count getting butt-fucked every Monday morning.

Now for the weather. The weather in any given place is probably colder than it usually is if it were summer, because it’s winter, you dumb fucking morons, just step outside. Ever wonder what people did before some lame-dick meteorologist told them? PROBABLY NOT, HUH? Oh, and there might be white stuff on the ground if you live in most any place but the South, and who decided they should have all the good weather states, anyway? They’re the worst people in the fucking world, next to the Nazis and Barack Obama, and they get all the good weather. It’s bullshit. California can go to hell, too, because you elected a governor who actually got paid cash to say, “ice to see you” and “chill out,” in the worst Batman installment, Batman and Robin. And you were complicit in the making of the Chronicles of Riddick.

What else does one write about in a “Good Morning” post? I mean, what else does one write about in a “Good Morning” post? We had one internet board meeting (more like bored meeting) and I’m supposed to know how this fucking thing works. Ridiculous. Basically, you’re all screwed if you think the Monday “Good Morning” post is going to be anything but awful.
