Untertainment Weakly (8-26-2011)

By Jake

Universal has passed on McG’s adaptation of Ouija board into a full length feature film. Looks like 2012 has to find a new worst movie.

Fox is planning on remaking “Romancing the Stone.” Why not? It’s not like there is anything original left to make.

Ben Savage will guest star on an episode of “Bones” in the upcoming season.

NBC has bought a pilot from Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson about 1980s wrestling. I’ll watch that shit.

The film “Worst Movie Ever!” made $11 last weekend.

There will be a new “Toy Story” short to debut before the new Muppets film. I probably will actually see this Muppets movie. Point out the hypocrisy in the comment section, please.

There is probably going to be a third “Sex and the City” movie. Are you excited?

Ray Bradbury is somehow helping to bring his novel “Dandelion Wine” to the big screen. I’ve read that book! I would, I guess, watch a film based on it.

Dan Akroyd, who is insane and thinks the moon landing is a hoax, thinks that “Ghostbusters 3” is bigger than Bill Murray. It is not. Dan Akroyd, you do not know jack shit.

Chevy Chase says that he has written a script for a potential “Vacation” remake. UGH!

Movies Out Today
Don’t be Afraid of the Dark - I kept thinking that this is a film version of the Nick show “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” but then I realized that they have different titles and that AYAotD is an anthology series. What is “Don’t be Afraid of the Dark” about? A motherfucking haunted house! Is it going to be as good as the classic Japanese film “Housu”? Probably not! That movie was crazy. Roger Ebert gave this film 3.5 stars, though, so it is probably pretty good; unless Ebert is trying to make peace with the film’s producer before he passes away.

Our Idiot Brother - Another solid ‘R’ comedy, perhaps the last big one of the summer. Paul Rudd stars as an idiot/brother. Paul Rudd is good. He has somehow become part of the extended family of ‘The State’ and one of Judd Apatow’s players. He also created the TV show “Party Down,” which is really good. Ebert gave this film three stars. It seems, for once, that either movie released this weekend would be worth seeing, depending on your tastes. I’d go see “Our Idiot Brother” before seeing the haunted house movie, but I prefer comedy over horror. I would still see “Final Destination 5” over either!

Other Thoughts
I did not watch any films this week. I have been watching “Frasier” and “Seinfeld” quite a bit lately. I recently purchased the first three seasons of “Seinfeld.” Plus, I have been watching the few shows that are airing this summer: “Children’s Hospital,” “Futurama” and “NTSF:SD:SUV::”. Mostly, I have been reading, though, and making an outlining and notes so I can make progress in my book that I will hopefully actually finish. See you next week.

  1. You already pointed out the hypocrisy so I'll just ask why you want to see it.

Also, maybe you could review Seinfeld episodes that AREN'T in syndication.
